What a week it's been, the street selling is in high gear. The movement of streets has been nothing but amazing. Auctioneers were searching to keep up with demand. We've searched the globe seeking the perfect streets to build up for the final run to the finish. We hope you got some good ones. Buying streets can be incredibly nerve racking. how many of you have waited days with your money tied up in a bid. Over half your savings tied up unusable at this critical point of the game. We feel if you don't like the bid, reject it outright, this does not apply to a timed auction scenario of course as it has an actual ending time. I saw mentioned that a seller had several thousand offers, thats just scary. OK so why did we pick fishing as the metaphor. First off we love fishing, expecially fly fishing so the tie in is natural. Once as a teen I was at Russian River, Alaska during a salmon run, there were fisherfolk lined up shoulder to shoulder for miles.
This street frenzy reminded me of that. I did own the Russian River Camp ground road early in the game but sadly it was not a keeper.
The six billion dollar street was crazy too, we dragged along endlessly amazed that we couldn't reach the end, and no we didn't, even with a trackball it wore us out. We hope the guy bidding on it realizes he needs a super computer to build on it. We saw some one mention an approx. game ending date, and it lead us to this comment in the rules, under Terms and Conditions.
"Playing on the Site
The website is scheduled to be open for play from September 18, 2009 through on or about December 16, 2009."
Dec 16th, we hope you've all pondered your endgame and have started to building on your hard won streets. The clock is ticking before the M Streets go quiet and Mr Mopps is off to fish his favorite fishing hole in the tropics.
We don't want the game to finish! We want to keep going on! Let's spread the word!
ReplyDeleteThe game is not loading. In MCS blog other players around the world have the same problem. Isn't maintenance. Is more like a big problem on the servers or ...
ReplyDeleteThe database is still on. Vertigo Project can access and show user stats.
ReplyDeleteMessage from the Apache server hosting MCS:
ReplyDeleteIf you are a member of the general public:
The fact that you are seeing this page indicates that the website you just visited is either experiencing problems or is undergoing routine maintenance.
So, the server is on and ready. The problem(if is really a problem) is the page of the game.
The game is back! Hurrah!
ReplyDeletegood thing, looked like it was gonna be a long one ..
ReplyDeleteIf the game does indeed end on the 16th of december, that gives 33 more rent days. At my current rate of rent, I will then have accumualted 530Bil in rent, assuming that i dont bid on any more streets (which is unlikely cause saving is boring and I're nearly built out all my streets). That may hopefully put me somewhere on the global leader board, but i doubt it.
ReplyDeleteThe key now, if you want to be really geeky about it, is to run an optimization on your strategy and work out whether or not the amount of time left in the game allows you to bid on and buy a long street, build on it and gain more rent, and finish the game with a higher score than what you would have if you'd just saved your money.
Simon, I agree its really thinking time, most of us don't expect to win, or even make the final 10 but it would be fun to see how close we get.
ReplyDeleteWe have posted this on the main MCS blog.

Chhers
It seems that there's been a heap of good streets released back to the wild recently, as i have seen heaps for sale!! Good times :)
ReplyDeleteWe dumped most of our under 3 mil back to the bank, no point in holding those.
ReplyDeleteThere have been some large streets released, finding them is a whole different issue.
MCS blog just went offline.
ReplyDeleteEx,
ReplyDeleteSeems to be working fine for us.
I wish there was someway to force people to accept or reject offers!! I have 50Bil tied up in an offer for the last 5 days!! The person is still active cause i can see them building in the friends feed, but they haven't moved on my offer, talk about frustrating!!
ReplyDeleteSimon, I've had that happen too, its a raw deal. It could be a end game ploy for some, Had one close to 7 days and they balked worried about losing it. Everyone knows the 7 day isn't working but the fear is still there. Telling people that there's a specific time when their cash is returned would be best when selling streets.
ReplyDeleteI also figure some are using this as a banking maneuver too, and who knows you might just get the street too. Win Win.
Being able to send in game messages might be a way of dealing with this too. Perhaps if you could contact the player prior to making an offer and see if they would be willing to sell for the right price then we may not end up in this position, although this could also have downsides with players abusing other players in game.
ReplyDeletehttp://citystreetshq.com was announced at the MCS Blog as a board where you can discuss business with the other players before the deal. Have some hope that certain problems could be eliminated through this way.
ReplyDeleteBuyerandseller,
ReplyDeleteWe've visited that site often and find it a great resource. I think MarketPolys ajax chat is by far the best active game communication thus far,
Have done some deals in whisper mode and found it quite effective. We always welcome anyone to use our space to communicate their auctions and info, as well.
cheers
Hwy 20 is on 24 hr hold, just a heads up.

ReplyDeleteSAMMYBROWN would like to thank all the players who bid on his Auction.
ReplyDeleteI will be using the funds to buy further unwanted streets from players.
I plan to manually strip these of their buildings (not Bonuses) to help players to identify the BASE price of each street.
All will be Sold/Auctioned off within the next 6 days.
I have already been offered a 11m, a 10.3m and a 10.2m BASE street all with Bonus buildings.
If you have any unwanted streets with a Base price over 4m which you would like to sell me at FULL price (or more on request) rather than Mr Monopoly's HALF price.
Either..
- Place a BID on the 102k street on SAMMYBROWN (DARBY CRES, New Zealand) and I will place a face value bid on your lowest street (subject to having sufficent funds). I will return the 102k before bidding on your street.
or
- Email me on sammybrownmono at ?mail.com (yes the missing letter is between f and h), with your username, the Street name and how much you would like me to BID for it.
Thanks again.
SammyBrown
